INDIANAPOLIS – The Wildcats biggest win in recent seasons have them in a good position for another level they have not reached in some years. Fort Valley State jumped to No. 7 in the next to last NCAA Division II Super Region 2 football rankings released Monday afternoon.
Behind the 31-21 win over the Region’s then No. 8 Albany State last Saturday, FVSU (8-2) went from No. 11 to No. 7 this week. The Wildcat leap is key as each of the four NCAA Division II Super Region’s top seven ranked teams make the 28-team football national championship playoff field.
With the regular season complete, FVSU will have to do some scoreboard watching this weekend. Depending on the outcomes from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship game between the Region’s No. 1 rated Benedict College and No. 8 Tuskegee along with the final regular season games in the South Atlantic Conference and Gulf South Conference will determine FVSU’s final fate to make the Super Region 2 field.
The NCAA Division II Selection Show will be video streamed next Sunday, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m. on ncaasports.com.
